How to treat heartburn or acidity?

Acidity, the most common problem between us. Today’s speedy life does not allow us to enjoy the food and give it the time to digest. Our speedy intake of food and disturbed life style is the root cause of Acidity. How to treat heartburn or acidity? It is not very difficult, by making some changes in our life style we can get rid of acidity. But first know what is heartburn or acidity?

Stomach acid helps digest food, activate enzymes, and destroy germs that make it to your stomach. However, stomach acid can also cause “heartburn,” a form of indigestion felt as a burning sensation in the chest, caused by acid regurgitation into the oesophagus. Heartburn is something that most adults will experience during their lifetime.

There are several factors that cause high stomach acid. The factor that most are of a lifestyle and food consumed each day. Factors causing high stomach acid include:

  • Unhealthy Lifestyle
  • Smoking
  • Too much consumption of acidic and spicy food
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Stress
  • Eat less vegetables and fiber
  • Lack of drinking water
  • Drinking a lot of coffee

Acidity can be treated at home as well. There are many food products which can be easily available at any kitchen. Make a habit of using these small tips and you can beat acidity.

Apple cider vinegar

Mix 1-2 teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar with one glass of water and drink. Vinegar is high in potassium and helps to neutralize stomach acid. If it’s too strong, it can reduce the amount of vinegar until it becomes familiar. Do this first thing in morning, that is empty stomach. Results will be much better.

Buttermilk

You can simply drink plain buttermilk several times a day until you get relief. Mix in a little black pepper or one teaspoon of ground coriander leaves for best results.

Break down your meal

Avoid eating quickly and eat smaller meals- always chew the food thoroughly and do not eat quickly. Also, avoid eating larger portions (which can make the stomach produce more acids) and instead eat smaller portions throughout the day

Green Tea

Start taking green tea twice a day. Green tea contains anti – oxidant polyphenols that promote proper digestion and restricts the acid or the food content flow back to esophagus. It is anti-inflammatory, so it relieves burning sensations caused by acid reflux.

Early Dinner

Take your dinner before at least 3 hours to sleep. Thus you will have enough time to drink some water and make some activity to let food digest. Having a 15 min walk after dinner is ideal.

Lifestyle changes that will help you get rid of acidity at home

  • Drink lots of water.
  • Monitor your alcohol consumption.
  • Watch your caffeine intake.
  • Avoid eating before bedtime or lying down.
  • Eat smaller meals.
  • Avoid high-fat foods.
  • Avoid spicy foods.
  • Avoid high-acid fruits.
