With more and more people suffering from the high-stress lifestyle, the incidences of hormonal imbalances have also increased. It is not just men who are being ravaged by this beastly disease; even women become feed to the jaws of hormonal imbalances. While being a disease in itself, hormonal imbalances also lead so many other problems like hair fall. Understanding the issue before trying to find a solution becomes one major step towards a successful treatment.

Hormonal Imbalance

Hormones are a part of the endocrine system of our body and are multi-functional in nature. Apart from setting up the physical features of the male and female body, hormones are also responsible for many other body functions. Hormones look after the aging process and are responsible for keeping the body healthy and young. In short, living without hormones is absolutely impossible. Just as the name suggests, certain bodily hormones, looking after the function of the body and its various organs, become imbalanced in their levels. This leads to certain problems and changes in the body functions. Maintaining the proper levels of hormones in our body is highly essential in order to continue with the normal body functions, while also keeping the immune system strong. Some research studies prove that proper levels of hormones help in reducing the risk factors for cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, senility, Alzheimer's disease etc.

Causes of Hormonal Imbalances

While we have understood that hormonal imbalances do cause hair fall and many more problems associated, we need to understand first the reasons or causatives of these hormonal imbalances. Some of the major causatives for hormonal imbalances have been listed below:

  • Stressful living – Too much stress results in the increase in the estrogen levels in our body, thus tipping the very stable hormones into unstable levels.

  • Birth control pills – since birth control pills aim at controlling the body hormones, initial intake might lead to hair loss, while stabilizing later. In the same way, when you stop consuming the birth control pills, a hormonal imbalance may occur in the body.

  • Pollution – Pollutants like pesticides, disinfectants, drugs, plastics etc all result in a sort of poisoning in our body, leading to a secretion of an external hormone that interferes with the natural secretion of body hormones. This also leads to the hormonal imbalance in our bodies.

  • Chemicals – heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides, plastics and many other poisons make their way into our bodies via air, water or food. This results in discrepancies in the hormone levels in our body.

  • HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) – any external intake of hormones in order to treat diseases like low sex drive result in the inability of the body to produce its own hormones, thus leading to hormonal imbalances.

  • Non organic and estrogen induced animal products – at times, many dairy workers used inducing the cow or any other animal with estrogen in order to increase the output (milk, fat etc). Consuming of such products also result in the mismanaged hormonal levels in our body.

  • Thyroid disease – An over active or under active thyroid functioning also results in causing imbalance in the hormonal levels.

  • Disease of the Pituitary like tumors etc also results in the hormonal mis balances in the body.

Solving all the above situations will help you get the hormonal levels back to normal and replenishing your hair growth as well.

Side Effects or Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalances

Women, who are in post-menopausal stages, more often than not face the problems of hormonal imbalances. In females, estrogen is the hormone that looks after most of the female aspects of the body. Any mis balance in the quantity of this hormone, which is usually experienced at the time of menopause or pregnancy, results in certain changes in the body. Estrogen is the resultant causative of supplying nutrients to the roots of the hair. When falling short, the nutrients fail to reach the scalp and result in deteriorating hair quality, while also leading to hair fall.

In men also, hereditary causes or any other lifestyle issues may result in changes in the male hormone system. Males are dependent upon the Testosterone in their body for attributing to the male features. Any increase or loss in the levels of testosterone might result in the hair loss in men too. Usually termed as Androgenic Alopecia (Male pattern Baldness), the increased levels of testosterone lead to baldness in men. When testosterone converts into a hyper-active form called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), these start reacting with the hair follicle, reducing its size and making the hair weaker, until the hair completely falls off.

Besides the hair fall issues, hormonal imbalances also result in various other problems like headaches, depression, lethargy, mood swings, anxiety, loss of libido, loss of male or female features, growth of facial hair in women, weight gain, skin allergies and many more such problems. Endometriosis, Fibrocystic breasts, Osteoporosis, Urinary tract infections and incontinence, uterine fibroids, water retention and bloating and Wrinkly skin are few other symptoms and side effects, which are the direct resultants of hormonal imbalances in our body.
