Dandruff  is also known by several different names like scurf, or Pityriasis Captis. It is a condition where the scalp experiences excessive shedding of dead skin, which accumulates near the hair roots and follicles. While some of this dead skin comes out in the form of flakes and tend to fall off, which we often see as dandruff, other remains back and starts forming scales like formation on the scalp. Dandruff is usually accompanied by itching, redness, irritation or a huge amount of hair fall. While being a disease in itself, dandruff may also be a byproduct of problems like seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis, fungal infection or head lice. Whichever be the reason, dandruff does lead to many self esteem issues manosgt young and old

Causes

While theer are many causative leading towards Dandruff, almost all affect the hair equally.

In normal course, the epidermal layer in the scalp replace itself, just like anywhere else in the body. This results in the old epidermal layer being rushed outwards, which leads to the death of these old cells, which then make flake like formations and fall off. However, at times, certain causes or triggers may lead to a rapidisation of the above described process and the number of dead cells and skin tissue increases by manifold. Normally, it takes the skin to mature and die in about a month. However, in people suffering from Dandruff, this time duration decreases to two to seven days only. hence a huge amount of skin is released in huge oily clumps, that give the skin of the scalp and grayish tinge with white patches. the dead skin also starts appearing on the clothes, shoulders and every other place that comes in direct contact with the scalp. the hugher these patches and grains of dandruff, the higher the magnitude of the problem.

usually, dandruff results from

- Oily skin or  sebaceous secretions
- By-products of skin microorganisms metabolising in the skin
- Individual body make-up and sisceptibility
- Faulty life style
- Bad metabolism
- Unhygienic hair condition
- Synthetic hair shampoos
- Improper maintenance of hairs
- Due to Stress and tensions
- Poor blood circulation in the scalp region
- Using common hair brushes and combs
- Indigestion and constipation

At times, fungal infections, allergic reactions to gels or medications, climate, food, stress, Seborrheic dermatitis and other such issues might also lead to the setting of dandruff on our scalps. sometimes, seasonal changes, stress, and immune-suppression also happen to be a few other causatives leading to dandruff and its effects on our scalp.

Dandruff Causes:

Dandruff results in hair loss and damage to hair. The reason is that when the dead skin is unable to fall off, it accumulates at the roots and follicles on the scalp covering the whole scalp with a layer of dead skin cells. Thus, the scalp is unable to absorb required nutrients and minerals from the environment. Further, dandruff also constricts the reach of required scalp oils to the roots of the hair, damaging them in turn. All these above mentioned problems result in the hair becoming weak and falling off in the end.

However, a completely treatable problem, dandruff is nothing to be afraid of. Once dandruff is treated successfully, the problem of hair loss too can be resolved.
